Politician in the making!!!

Our very own young politician, Brett, has made his mark on the school, local and national political scene.  Passionate about politics, Brett is keen to enrich our school's PSE programme with his very own 'Question Time' taking place at school on October 17.  He has worked extremely hard to gather local politicians to school to debate a political agenda close to young people.  He intends to chair the debate, which will focus on topics such as Health and Education.  Brett realises that his role is to provoke honest discussion from our guests in order to allow his fellow pupils to use their vote wisely when they reach eighteen!!

A truly superb effort, Brett; we really are very proud of you! We have a feeling you will be either at the Senedd or Westminster one day soon!!!

Fundraising

Along with many others, we would like to say a big thank you to Cerys of year 10, for solely raising £165 for Coedcae's Race For Life.  With all monies now in, Cerys was the school's top fundraiser.  What a selfless and truly considerate gesture from Cerys.  Her efforts will most certainly go a long way to help research and care for cancer patients. A huge thank you to Cerys from all here at school.  She certainly was a huge contributor to the £2200 total raised on the last day of the summer term.

8JD must also be congratulated.  They raised £124 for Macmillan Cancer Care with their very own break time cake sale this term.  They baked well for a complete sell out!

What a credit to Coedcae!! Brett, Kouri, Ffion, Lily and Sophie of year 11 raised money for three cancer charities during their summer holiday. A morning bag packing at Asda raised a grand total of £400 for Breast Cancer, Jo's Cervical Cancer Action and Ovarian Cancer Action. All five pupils worked effortlessly through the morning, giving up their time for those less fortunate than ourselves, raising awareness of the ongoing need for support for cancer patients and research for cures.

Next year, and most certainly keeping it in the family, Brett's mum will be travelling to Tanzania to cycle 350km for cancer charities. Her son and friends have definitely made a great start to a target of £3,000. Well done to you all; a superb and extremely considerate achievement.

 Off to a flying start…….

All three pupils attended our summer school during the holidays and must be congratulated for their effort and commitment. Lauren, Rhys and Dylan achieved an outstanding 100% attendance, made a huge effort to make new friends, communicated with everyone exceptionally well, led group discussions frequently and submitted excellent homework. What a trio!! We are very proud of our new pupils who are most certainly off to a flying start!! Well done all; we are looking forward to hearing lots more about your achievements in the future. Star of stage and screen……..

What a star! Michael appeared on Dr. Who last Saturday! A member of the Mark Jermin Stage School for just over a year, Michael is no stranger to stage and screen. With previous auditions for Peter Pan and the Flora Gold advert, Michael was awarded his role in Dr. Who last May.

All filming took place at the BBC in Cardiff. Working alongside Jenna Coleman, Clara Oswold in Dr. Who, Michael had a first class experience. He noted how much hard work leading roles have to put into their parts as he caught Jenna Coleman constantly reviewing her script between scenes.

Michael's dream is to continue acting so that it will eventually become his profession. This autumn Michael will be appearing on the 'ident' for Disney Channel. We certainly have a star in our midst!

He celebrated his 'screening' on Saturday with his family around for a meal. Well done Michael, we are very proud of you!
