Global Citizens in the Making
INSPIRE>ASPIRE: Global Citizens in the Making is a unique programme for schools. It is designed to support young people from the Commonwealth nations to make the most of the teaching and learning opportunities from the Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2014. The Values Poster Awards has been a feature of education in England, Wales and Northern Ireland for many years and has been endorsed by senior figures across regional Governments, and even the UK Prime Minister, as an outstanding contribution to education.
Inspired by their Religious Studies lessons, a group of Year 7 and Year 8 pupils from Coedcae School rose to the challenge of designing their own Inspire>Aspire Poster. As part of the process they reflected upon their own personal values and qualities, explained what their favourite story or fictional character had taught them about life, wrote about an inspirational figure and analysed a favourite quotation. Finally, they completed their Arc of Destiny, which was their vision and commitment towards a Better World. In their first year of entering, Coedcae pupils exceeded all expectations. Ben Davies-Bowdler is now a Gold National Finalist and has been invited to Glasgow on Monday 16th June to receive his award from BBC Correspondent and Adventurer Mark Beaumont. In addition, Harrison Button was a 3rd place Silver Winner, Jordan McNally a Silver Finalist while Zuzanna Janas was a 1st place Bronze Winner and Olivia John a 2nd place Bronze Winner.
Mrs Senchal, Headteacher, said, “ We are extremely proud of our pupils’ achievements. They have worked very hard to gain their success and they have thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We are delighted that our young people had the opportunity to participate in such a motivating and thought-provoking project. Well done to all those involved!”
