English at Coedcae is about developing children’s literacy skills, and much more besides. The department believes in a mixture of traditional and innovative teaching methods, and our primary concern is to get the very best out of the children – a fact reflected in impressive results at both key stages.

At both key stages children are placed in groups according to their ability. We focus on improving speaking and listening and written and reading skills, and on exploring a wide range of literary texts.  At KS3, pupils follow a curriculum designed to prepare them  for the rigors of GCSE.

ICT is used extensively throughout lessons and the department is very well resourced, using the latest computer technology to add variety to the curriculum and to develop independent learning.

At key stage 4, many pupils are entered for both English Language and Literature  At GCSE level.

The department provides  children  with many opportunities to maximize potential. After-school catch-up sessions are available to all pupils, with members of the English team at hand to offer guidance and support.

We also offer a wide range of extra-curricular activities and  organise theatre visits where appropriate.
